Primrose Studios -- About the Artist

Hello,

My name is Janice Doyle. I have wanted to paint for as long as I can remember. In October of 1996 while at a fair I stopped to watch an artist who was demonstrating his work. After talking with him about art and style, I decided it was time to take lessons. I wanted to make sure that I liked his work before taking the lessons from him, so I went to one of his art shows in November and made the decision to start painting in January of 1997.

I found that I really enjoyed painting but needed a little more practice at drawing so I took lessons in pencil drawing. To practice what I had learned I started drawing portraits of the musicians I was going to see in concert. I got lots of practice because, at that time, I was going to Country Music concerts on a weekly basis.

In order to paint and draw I needed pictures to use for my models so I bought an inexpensive camera and found that I really enjoyed photography. Since I purchased my first 35 millimeter my camera has been my constant companion.

I stopped taking lessons 3 or 4 years after starting and I spend as much time as I can in artistic pursuits. I recently added an art room to my house so I can paint more often but my first love is still drawing pencil portraits. Although I started by painting with oil paints I am now proficient with oils, acrylics, water color, colored pencils and pencils. I am always experimenting with new ideas and trying new things. I would love to create something for you.
